"I never expected it would totally change my lunchbox game."
"I bought it on a whim... and never expected it would totally change my lunchbox game."
With two young kids and a teenager to get out the door, Mickey does what she can to minimise the chaos each morning.
Rather than waking up at the crack of dawn to pack lunches, the NSW mum has taken to bulk cooking snacks and freezing them ahead of time. Through trial and error, she’s found that sandwiches, pizza scrolls and muffins tend to freeze the best.
But that’s before the ALDI samosa maker entered her life.
“I am a bit of a kitchen gadget addict – and it was only $29.95. I didn’t need much of a reason to buy it other than this could be fun!” she tells Kidspot.

Mickey had no idea that the fun appliance would end up changing her lunchbox game for good.
It all started when she noticed mums on Facebook using the samosa maker to create cake pops for their kids.
Then one day while Mickey was making her usual pizza scrolls, her teenage daughter suggested that she make samosas with the pastry.
“That sparked the idea of pizzas in the samosa maker! Winner!!” Mickey says.
“It’s really is a speedy appliance.
“It cooks the pastry within five minutes.”

Since then Mickey has perfected the art of pizza samosas – or as her kids call them pizza-moosas.
She takes the pastry out of the fridge 15 minutes before so that it has time to defrost.
Then she covers one side of the pasty in pizza sauce while turning on the samosa maker.
“The samosa maker is a multi-sided shape and the pastry is square, you need to stretch it slightly to cover as many of the triangles as possible,” she says.
“I switched off the preheated samosa maker to give me a few minutes to prepare the pizzas without cooking the pastry bottom.
“I then put the top piece of pastry overstretching it slightly to cover the bottom.
“I switched the maker on again and closed the top!”

Once the cooked pizza samosas have cooled, Mickey fights off the kids and puts them into the freezer for lunches.
They’re the perfect snack to add to lunch because they don’t need to be defrosted before being put into the lunchbox.
And if pizza isn't for you – Mickey’s also used the samosa maker to make cinnamon muffins.
“We bought the ALDI cinnamon crumble muffin mix and put that to the test in the samosa maker,” she says.
“Well - it didn’t disappoint.
“What I love about the samosa maker is the small portions.
“It’s easier to pop a little treat into the lunchboxes this way! And the kids love them too!”
